Notes | This glasshouse was originally part of a tomato growing nursery in Bothwell. Following the Garden Festival, it was dismantled and removed to Calderpark Zoo, under the direction of Richard O'Grady. There the parts were stored, unassembled, in containers, and presumably destroyed with the redevelopment of the site (correspondence ex. John Banks, May 2023). The Tropicarium itself was a butterly and orchid house, a project that seems to have been led by the staff of Glasgow (Calderpark) Zoo, with plants sourced from Papua New Guinea by James Dickson, Keith Watson and Graham Steven of Glasgow University's Botany Department, accompanied by Ewen Donaldson of Glasgow Botanic Gardens.
